Working at Enterprise’s European Corporate Office as an intern was my first experience with Enterprise.  I came to the UK from the United States, where I study Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Vermont. Right away I learnt so much about the company and its unique culture. The people here are extremely welcoming and supportive of one another. With Enterprise growing at such a fast rate more and more departments are developing and expanding.

One thing I really liked about this was that even though you have such a diverse selection of departments everyone works with each other and are willing to share ideas and knowledge. This gives employees, and interns such as myself, so many opportunities to expand their experiences and learn about all aspects of the business.  This speaks true to Enterprise’s values:  “Enterprise is a fun and friendly place, where teamwork rules” and “We work hard…and reward hard work”.

During my time at the European Office I started off working in the Sales and Communication department. They taught me important skills like how to communicate with customers by writing about our company in a concise manner. While applying for an account you have to take into consideration who the audience – it is important to stop and understand what the potential customer requires so you can tailor the message to them. I was also taught useful Excel and Powerpoint skills. I learned how to make Powerpoint presentations appealing and interactive for the audience.  After spending my first half of my internship with Sales I moved to HR, specifically recruitment. During my time in recruitment I was given a variety of tasks – from doing phone interviews to working on social media. I learned invaluable interview skills by just being able to sit in and observe those being interviewed. Also, when tweeting I read many articles about how to give off a good first impression, how to sell yourself at an interview, what questions to ask during your interview, and much more. Working on social media was fun because I had to come up with recruitment strategies and figure out ways to reach people who would qualify for our job postings.

Another reason why Enterprise is such a great company to work for is because of the opportunities it offers for employees to get involved with outside of their job. While here, I was able to join the group Women in Leadership, which was a great way to meet women from all different departments that I wouldn’t have been able to meet. The group is not only a great way to connect, but it is also a great way to motivate and inspire one another. Being able to see the job roles these women were in was interesting and encouraging.

What I really appreciated about Enterprise was that it employs from within. This means Enterprise really cares about their employees and are always investing in their staff by supporting them in their career development. Everyone at the top worked their way up, which is important because not only is Enterprise investing in the employees but the employees are investing in the company. If the employees are passionate and knowledgeable about the company then they are going add a lot more to the business and are more determined to make sure their customers are taken care of too. It’s a great company strategy and makes for a continuously growing, successful business.
