I became involved with Enterprise Rent A Car when applying for the Management Undergraduate of the Year Award. After answering questions regarding my leadership and management skills, I then got through to the next stage of online tests. I was surprised to receive an email saying I had made it to the Top 50 and I had a scheduled telephone interview.
This was my first ever telephone interview and I was extremely nervous. If I was going to give any tips, then I would say you need to have a good background knowledge about the company. I wrote down a few interesting facts that meant something to me, so I could bring them up in the interview. It’s important to have questions written down for you to ask the interviewer – you need to know just as much about them as they do about you.
I made the final assessment centre stage – again this was my first one. I had never felt so nervous but as soon as I got there, I met some great people who were also competing for this award. Although you may be in competition with them, it is always good to network as it puts you at ease and increases your confidence throughout the day. Team work is also important for the tasks throughout the assessment day, so you need to feel comfortable with everyone around you. I also made sure I introduced myself to as many assessors as possible so they would remember who I was at the end of the day.
Although I didn’t make the final 10, I was so proud of my progress. Since applying for this award my self-confidence has grown so much. You have to be proactive and grasp opportunities, even if you think you don’t have a chance – you’ll never know if you don’t try something. This award has already opened up doors for me as I have been offered an internship this summer as well as the role of Enterprise Campus Brand Manager at my University in my third year.
