8 March 2013 is International Women’s Day. The first International Women’s Day was held over 100 years ago on 28 February 1909 in the United States. Over the last century, world leaders and international organisations have recognized and engaged in the momentum so much so that by 2011, events spread to 100 countries.
Around the world, the focus ranges from general celebrations of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political and social achievements. Political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner. The focus for 2013 is The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum. It’s about celebrating achievements of women and looking for sustainable change for equality.
This year, Enterprise Rent-A-Car join worldwide celebrations on equality as we celebrate our dynamic and vibrant female culture. There will be guest speakers, seminars, conferences and meetings all across the UK discussing personal branding, promotion, advancement, mentoring and coaching, just to name a few. On Wednesday March 13 for example we’re at the University of Hertfordshire, where we’re sponsoring a free mini conference titled ‘Women in Leadership’.
And no, these conferences and meetings aren’t limited to just women. Many of our male counterparts will be there talking about visions of success and what personal branding means to them to help foster an even deeper culture of mentoring and coaching.
For me, this serves as a reminder about how great we are not only as a company, but as a group of people working towards a common goal. It’s an opportunity for us to see how far we’ve travelled and gives us inspiration of what is still yet to come.
