For those of us who’ve seen the shocking images on the news, it will come as no surprise to learn that the UK has had its wettest winter since records began. There has been widespread flooding across the south of England, but low-lying parts of the Thames Valley, including Surrey, were among those areas worst affected. To help with ongoing relief efforts in the area, our Enterprise Holdings Foundation will donate £5,000 to the Community Foundation for Surrey.
The flooding has left homes uninhabitable and some families have had to turn to voluntary groups for help. Water levels rose to their highest level for at least 30 years in places such as Egham, Staines, Walton, and Runnymede. There was a large-scale rescue operation in place after families found themselves stranded in their homes as floods engulfed the area. At present, water levels are dropping but the clean-up will continue for some time. The donation will be used to help those in immediate hardship, as well as support the recovery in the coming weeks.
As our European Headquarters is based in Surrey and many of our colleagues live in the locality, we felt a responsibility to get involved and help given the scale of the flooding. Already our colleagues at the Headquarters in Egham have donated food and bedding to help the most vulnerable.
Our contribution will help volunteer relief teams help those affected to get back into their homes as quickly as possible.
